A convenient utility for the MAC that enables a user to store and share recipes as well as produce shopping lists.
Pros: This is a tool to manage recipes and shopping lists. The main focus of the tool is recipes. To begin with there is a wizard that enables one to quickly add a recipe into the tool (it comes bundled with a number of recipes). Recipes can be added either by directly typing them into the interface, copying and pasting from a source, or from an online database of recipes. Recipes are automatically interpreted by the wizard, which links it to the on-board database of items and populates the nutritional information related to the given recipe. Nutritional information is available for over 40 nutrients, and what information is shown can be customized according to the user’s requirements (for example you may be interested in fat information than anything else). A scaling tool enables you decide on the portion that you are cooking and the recipe values (amount of each item will be automatically adjusted as well as the nutritional information). Recipes can be organized by categories, stored into different cookbooks, and can be shared through the online database (which is a database where user’s of the tool put up their recipes) or via email. Recipes can also link to other recipes that they are related to or are somehow dependent upon (for example a past recipe may link to a recipe for an Alfredo sauce). Grocery lists can be created by selecting from the database of more than 2000 items, selecting from sublists, or simply by typing it in.
Cons: There are no major issues with the tool. The interface definitely could use some improvement in terms of look and feel as well as certain visual indicators of the type of recipe that is listed (for example: vegetarian / non-vegetarian etc.).
Overall: 5 stars. It is an excellent tool that different kinds of people who work in the kitchen will really like. Some improvement is desirable in the interface.
